Toolkit for Virtual Reality Apps and Games: FAAST
This post is exclusively for Visual Reality(VR) geeks and game developers working on controller-free gaming or application experiments.
With huge reception and proliferation of Microsoft Kinect, the entire landscape of gaming and application development is going to change forever. Visual Reality is rapidly making its place in application and game development industry. If you are a fan of VR-based applications and would like to play with the technology, get hold of Flexible Action and Articulated Skeleton Toolkit (FAAST) – a complete middleware framework for VR-based games and apps.
FAAST uses PrimeSensor or Microsoft Kinect sensors to provide integration of body movements and gestures with games and applications. The toolkit also supports emulation of mouse and keyboard control via physical movements or gestures, thus providing VR integration with existing applications and games.
FAAST has been used successfully in various virtual rehabilitation, toy simulation and training projects as well as in popular games like World of Warcraft and Call of Duty. Currently FAAST is available for Windows only and can be used free of charge for non-commercial projects.
